Last night the three of us were sitting down watching a little TV. The fact that all three of us are together, let alone watching TV is a rare occurrence. It was in a commercial break that I saw something I couldn't believe. I see a car commercial, and the music kicks in.
One of the bands that I listened to and really liked in my pre and teen years was this band out LA. I asked my 13 year old son,"if a band of my youth is being sponsored by a car company, am I now old?" He looked me straight in the eye and only said "yeah dad, you're old." This is the Crue I remember, not the car sellers.
Now I feel old too ;-)
ReplyDeleteAcknowledging you have a problem is the first step. Although the only thing you can do about not getting older isn't a very good option.
ReplyDeleteI turned 45 this year. Now THAT is old!
I've been watching Cindy Lauper and all my teen angst heroes hawk stuff for years.
I know exactly what you mean! I had that realization back when they used Led Zeppelin's "Rock n Roll" in a Cadillac commercial...
ReplyDeleteand recently when I heard the Ramones "Beat on the Brat" over PA in a grocery store. A national chain of grocery stores that no doubt has entire team of people who decide what songs will go on the recorded filler played throughout their stores.
Hey, think positive, pretty soon we can go to the movies and pay matinee prices at any time. Of course, we doze off if it's a later show, but that's not the point!
I'm suddenly hearing Bruce Sprinsteen in my head, "Glory days ...."
ReplyDeleteA lot of things to like in that ad. One of my favorite songs, my favorite MMA fighter Chuck Liddell...and well Adrienne Lima.
