Recurring Nostalgia

I saw this the other day and thought I would share another team celebrating an anniversary. As we all know, the Washington Senators returned in 1961 after the first team left for Minnesota after 1960. This Senators would leave again after 1971 to go to Arlington, Texas.

The new team would be known as the Texas Rangers in tribute to the Old West lawmen. Since 1972 was their first season, that means this year is 40 years since moving south. While it took a long time for the Rangers to find success, they have been to the World Series for the last two years.

I think it is awesome that the Rangers will do flashback Fridays at home this year showing off some old uniforms. I think it was neat to see the Angels do it last year for their 50th.

I know the Astros will also be doing it for their 50th this year too.

What do you think, more or less flashbacks if they do the uniforms right?

How about this?

I wish I had the photoshop skills that some of you had. I really wanted to take this picture or any of him and change that hat to Mariners cap. I doubt that we are even thinking about trying to get him, but I think we need him.

I mean what do we have at second base this year? Neither Adam Kennedy(ironic, a Kennedy that got popped for DUI) nor Brendan Ryan(are you being saved private?) really get my panties in a bunch. I don't think that Dustin Ackley is ready to make the jump to the Majors. Let him continue to develop and bring him up when the time is right. As I did back in December, here are some guys I am willing to give up to get Michael Young. I think that he is still young enough to help rebuild this team. And, putting him in the 3 hole behind Ichiro and Figgins would be awesome.

Come on Jack, get on the phone to Nolan Ryan, and let's get Michael here to Seattle!!

God must love ballplayers...

Because if you we're anyone else, you would be dead by now." So far that is the greatest line from this book.

I received it for Christmas after everyone heard me saying I wanted to read it. While I'm only half way through the book so far, I must say the story is very moving. It is amazing to see the depths of darkness people fall into and crawl out of. I had a new respect and admiration for Josh Hamilton. I think I might even be becoming a bit of a fan of his. Except of course when the Rangers play the Mariners. I would highly recommend if you haven't read this book to buy it or get it from your library.

UPDATE: I still have the $20 from Amazon. I still haven't decided what books to buy with the money yet.

Congratulations!!

I extend my congratulations to both The Rangers and the Giants. They both have played hard and gotten to where no one expected them to be. While I would root for the Rangers, because they are in my division, that's why I can't root for them. Plus San Francisco is closer to Seattle. I do hope that Cliff Lee does well, but I hope that the hometown kid Tim Lincecum can come through. Games start Wednesday.
