Brighter than the sun!!

First off I will admit I am more of a rock kind of guy. It doesn't make if it's rock from the 60's all the way to a lot of modern rock. I do like that song by Colbie Caillat, and she's easy on the eyes too. I know how does her and the song relate to cards?? Follow my lead and you will see...

Not too long ago, I hooked up with Ryan of Building a Better Collection about working a deal. I sent him some Braves and some other random football stuff for some Mariners he had laying around. The first thing of beauty was my first 2013 Topps card of flamethrower Carter Capps.

There were some colorful shiny cards of parallels from the last few years, but the blinding need that was in there starts with these cards that are now 25 years old!! That's right folks, 1988 Score Rookie&Traded is 25!!

Also not to be out done on the brightness scale was the last needs to a very cheery set in the 1991 Fleer updates. These four guys found their place to the Super Set, and I continue to chip away at whats left  of the less than 200 cards I need to finish it. Maybe you have some I need, or I might hit Sportlots one day.

A big thanks again goes out to Ryan, and hit him up if you have Braves, or Redskins laying around and want to hook up a trade!!

Superb Score 1994-1998

Here we go with the last half of Score's production run. Due to financial troubles, Pinnacle brand which made Score filed for bankruptcy in 1998 and was out of the baseball card business. Let's see what they gave us in the end.

1994 Ken Griffey Jr.
Now here's something you don't associate with Junior, a bunt. Must be a spring game, cause I don't remember that in the regular season.

If anyone has this card, I'm open to a trade.
1994 Rookie/Traded Greg Pirkl
A card of spring training greatness. I always found the spelling on his name kind of cool.

1995 Rich Amaral
I'm not sure why he is listed as a DH, when it looks like he is playing leap frog at second base.

1996 Randy Johnson
I don't care if you're bigger than me, I'm catcher and what I say goes. Got it?!

1997 Dennis Martinez
Nine games with the Mariners for a 1-5 record, and 7.71 ERA. He did pitch a perfect game back in the day. El Presidente was a Mariner for a minute.

1998 Joey Cora
I always wondered how Joey got away with the hat pins when MLB is so strict with the uniform policy. They do add a nice little flair though.

If anyone has this card, I'm open to a trade.
1998 Rookie/Traded Alex Rodriguez
Is Alex getting mic'd for a game, or does he not know how to dress himself and the clubhouse guys need to help him out?

There you are folks, the short run of Score cards. I have plenty of needs from Donruss, Fleer, Score and Upper Deck in the Super Set wantlist. Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Soon, will be our next victim, the Upper Deck series.

Superb Score 1988-1993

Well, now we are done with the Fleer cards and the year. Why not start out the new year with another round of my favorites from another big name. This time we will start to look at Score's entry into the baseball card world. The first three sets to look at were just given set names by the great Night Owl on this post. I would say I have to agree with him on the names, they are spot on. Here would be the cards from the first half of Score's offerings.

1988 Alvin Davis
The reoccurring theme of the '88 set was lots of action shots of pitchers and hitters. Why not pick my favorite Mariner of all-time.

If anyone owns this card, I'm open to a trade.
1988 Rookie/Traded Jay Buhner
It looks like Jay tried, or did hit this ball halfway to China. That looks like a powerful swing.

1989 Rich Renteria
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's County Stadium in Milwaukee. It sure looks empty to me.

If anyone has this card, I'm open to a trade.
1989 Rookie/Traded Ken Griffey Jr.
Nice shot of the young skinny kid from his first year.

1990 Harold Reynolds
I like the execution of catching a ball with two hands, and the flip down glasses are the topper.

1990 Rookie/Traded Pete O'Brien
Easy choice, considering the Mariners only had one card in this set.

1991 Ken Griffey Jr. Score All-Star
This cards makes laugh with the big head cartoon. It reminds me of later when Ken was on the Simpsons with a swollen head.

If anyone has this card, I'm open to a trade.
1991 Rookie/Traded Rob Murphy
Another easy choice for the one card Seattle had in the Rookie/Traded set.

1992 Jay Buhner
I can't figure out the look of these where he is coming from green oblivion to a baseball field.

If anyone has this card, I'm open to a trade.
1992 Rookie/Traded Bret Boone
I can't find many pictures from the three cards in this set, but this was the biggest name.

1993 Edgar Martinez
I didn't realize guys could get hits on the tip of their toes, a la Michael Jackson 1980's style.

Score didn't make a Rookie/Traded set for Score in 1993. They did make one for the new Score Select. There is the first part of Score's run at cards. Not great, but not the worst I've ever seen either.
