Retro Mariner Sunday 2/28/10

I decided to go with a player that spent time on the inaugural Mariners team. Gary Wheelock spent time with the M's in 1977 and 1980. Before coming to the Mariners in the expansion draft, he made his major league debut with the California Angels in 1976. He spent the entire 1977 season with the Mariners. Gary spent all of 1978 with the San Jose Missions(AAA) and 1979 with the Spokane Indians(AAA). He made one appearance on April 18, 1980 for the Mariners and spent the rest of the season back at AAA Spokane. Gary was released by the Mariners after the 1980 season and signed with the Dodgers for 1981. He played in 1981 for the AA San Antonio Dodgers. After the 81 season, he retired from baseball. Gary has spent his time since then as a minor league pitching coach for the Mariners organization. He has spent time with Bellingham(Rookie short season), Everett(Rookie short season), and the AZL Mariners. Gary obviously has a passion to help develop young pitchers. I hope his work of the past will help my Mariners this year.

Hockey topic

I must say I am pleasantly shocked at how well Team USA in playing in the Olympics. I can't believe the pasting Canada put on Russia last night. I thought those two would be playing each other for gold. The Finland/Czech game was excellent, and how about Slovakia beating Sweden. I think the semi-final games and the medal games will be good ones. PREDICTION: USA/Canada rematch in the final game.

WHY? WHY? WHY?

Is it just me, or does it seem like Topps is insert crazy? I can deal with one or two, but do we really need this many? I can't stand the fact that Topps Town cards are still in there, and count as a card in the pack. I know that many people like the different insert sets and all the autos and relics. Is it possible for them to make packs designed for set builders without all the extra bells and whistles? I do understand that isn't where the hobby is anymore. I seem to end up sending most of mine away in trades. I like to buy packs and chase a set of base cards, but don't want to wait for the end of the season to buy a full set. Where is the fun in that? I know the card companies are in it to make the buck, but I just want the fun of the hobby from when I was a kid. I guess my whining won't do any good, the industry won't listen. I do feel better now though.

WANTED!!

I have been working for many years and and completed a favorite project. I have all of the Topps base and Traded cards for the Mariners for 1977 to 2009. That's over 1000 cards. I have found some of the 2010 cards so far. I need to find the last five to say on track. If anyone can help me find cards:

Series 1 complete!!
When Series 2 comes I will ask again!

If anyone can help, I can put series 1 in the binder. Thanks for the help.

First time!

Welcome everyone. I'm not sure how well this will go or how often I will do this. I will need some help from people in the blogosphere world. I am a huge Seattle Mariners and baseball fan. This blog will try to bring you the cards and players I like. I will try to put up some of the cards I have or buy. I will also put up wantlists and cards available for trade. I hope I can be half as good as most out in the circles!
